Iraqi Cabinet Approves Maritime Agreement with Russia and Sets Parliamentary Election Date

During its 14th regular session held on April 8, 2025, the Iraqi Council of Ministers issued the following decisions:

  1. Approval of Maritime Transport Agreement with Russia
    The Cabinet approved the draft law on the ratification of the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Iraq and the Government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of maritime transport, signed in Baghdad on February 26, 2025. The draft law will be referred to the Council of Representatives in accordance with Articles 61 (First) and 80 (Second) of the Iraqi Constitution.
  2. Authorization for Signing the Agreement
    The Cabinet granted the Director General of the General Company for Maritime Transport retroactive authorization for signing the agreement mentioned in point (1), in accordance with Article 6 of the Treaty-Making Law No. 35 of 2015.

The Cabinet Affairs and Committees Department clarified that the decision also included authorizing the Director General of the General Company for Land Transport to negotiate and sign the draft international land transport agreement for passengers and goods.


Cabinet Sets Date for Iraqi Parliamentary Elections
Also during the same session, the Council of Ministers approved setting November 11, 2025, as the official date for holding elections for the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
